Newmarket on Fergus (1-9)
Munster Senior Club Championship Fi
Milford (Cork) 5-18 Newmarket on Fergus (Clare) 1-9
Refixed for Ballyagran, due to weather conditions, the pitch held up well given the overnight rain, and it was Milford on winning the toss, decided to play into the stiff breeze. Newmarket were the first Clare club to reach a Senior Provincial decider in 22 years, and perhaps the weight of expectation rested on them uneasily as Milford had 1-1 scored in the opening five minutes through player of the match Aisling Thompson and Maria O'Neill. Deirdre O'Reilly named at No.25 but who was always going to start, ran at the Newmarket defence setting up further scores for Emer & Maria Watson. However, Newmarket with the wind and the slope in their favour had 1-1 back on the board after 15 minutes from their Capt Roisin McMahon and Iris Kaiser. Milford are not champions for nothing, they didnt panic and with Emer Watson fed some marvellous ball, kept tacking over the points, along with further goals to leave it half time Milford 3-10 Newmarket on Fergus 1-5.
The second half started in a similar fashion and Milford had again 1-1 on the board inside the first five minutes courtesy of Maria O'Neill. Newmarket on Fergus to their eternal credit never gave up the fight, and Roisin McMahon slotted over 3 frees with Jenny Kelly pointing from play. There was to be no way back for them when Deirdre O'Reilly netted on the 40th minute, and Milford were relentless from the back line to the forwards, working tirelessly despite the result in no doubt. So Milford marched on to collect their fourth Munster Senior Club title on the trot, they sent out a clear message to their opponents in the All Ireland series Oulart the Ballagh, that they mean business. For now, the Thomas McDonagh Cup heads back to the North Cork parish for 2015.
