AIB Munster Intermediate & Senior Finals PreviewNov 11

AIB Munster Intermediate & Senior Finals PreviewCahir GAA will host the AIB All-Ireland Club Championships, Munster Senior and Intermediate Finals on Saturday November 12th, with a high standard of Camogie promised from four excellent teams. The Intermediate decider will take place first at 12.30pm between Gailltír of Waterford and Tipperary’s Nenagh Éire Óg. Nenagh recently beat Drom & Inch in the Tipperary county final by eight points, and received a bye straight into the Munster Final. The Tipperary championship was a hard fought affair, where they faced close battles along the way against Shannon Rovers and Silvermines. This young side have made the leap from Junior B in 2013 to playing senior camogie in 2017, and will be keen to continue to prove their worth against Waterford Senior champions Gailltír. Gailltír accounted for Lismore in the Waterford county final, who themselves have enjoyed recent Munster successes, and went on to face Cork champions Blackrock in the Munster Semi-Final on October 22nd. They proved victorious on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-7, and will be counting on the experience of multiple All-Ireland Poc Fada winning champion and Waterford senior player Patricia Jackman to lead their charge on the day. A close encounter is also expected in the Senior Final between Cork’s Inniscarra and Nenagh’s close neighbours Burgess/Duharra. Inniscarra navigated their way through a difficult Cork championship and took the honours in the county final from many people’s favourites for another All-Ireland title, Milford. Three days later they played their Munster semi-final against Inagh/Kilnamona in Clare, and again showed their resilient qualities with a six point win. They will look to captain Joanne Casey for scores and multiple All-Ireland winner and dual star Rena Buckley to win the midfield battle. Burgess/Duharra secured their fifth Tipperary county final in a row with a replay victory over Borrisoleigh, and will be anxious to add this year’s Munster crown to their silverware having been beaten after extra-time in last year’s semi-final by champions Milford. They were extremely impressive in their semi-final victory over Granagh/Ballingarry, having put up a score of 5-17 against the Limerick side with excellent performances by the Kennedy’s in the full-forward line. Tipperary senior stars Gemma Grace, Jenny Grace and Caoimhe Maher are also key figures for the side and will need to have a big impact on the game to secure victory. All evidence points to two close and exciting games on Saturday, with both Munster silverware and All-Ireland semi-final places up for grabs for the victors.
